Mohammad Abul Azad is a Senior Economist in the Development Data Group with over twenty-five years of experience in international development. His work spans economic policy research, evidence-based policymaking, governance reform, and institution building across Africa, South Asia, and North America. He has extensive experience in fragile, conflict, and violence (FCV) settings, where he has contributed to closing critical evidence gaps on forcibly displaced populations, developed conflict monitoring systems, and produced analytical work to inform recovery and reconstruction policies.

Azad has authored research papers on conflict and household welfare, multidimensional poverty - including household and child poverty, and agricultural development.

He holds master’s degrees in International Public Policy from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), in Development Studies from North South University, and in English Literature from Aligarh Muslim University.
