Arlan Brucal is an Economist in the SME and Enterprise Development, Policy & Regulations Unit in the Trade, Competition, and Business Directorate. Prior to joining the bank in October 2023, he served as the Country Economist for UNDP Philippines and a Visiting Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science. His research interests include the effect of policy reforms on firm dynamics and industrial organization, with emphasis on those relating to foreign direct investments and climate change/environment. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa, and his BS and MA from the University of the Philippines.
